Are you one or a combination of these “F” archetypes? Are you living a life that truly Fits?

Fashionista
Is this you? Then your archetypal family is Fashion. You love being a slave—to fashion, that is. You’ve chosen your own outfits since you were five, and it wasn’t long before you could do the two-step in 7-inch platform heels. Today you live by Coco Chanel’s words: “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” You design in your mind, dream it in your sleep, and don’t leave the house without it. You have an eye open for the style in everything, above and beyond the wardrobe.

Femme Fatale
You probably didn’t know you were a “dangerous woman” in kindergarten. Still, you may have been introduced quite young to this irresistible-to-men archetype in the “person” of Miss Piggy, and felt something resonate. Think Fashionista meets Rebel meets a whole lot of trouble. You are, as the legendary Femme Mae West once said, the kind of girl who “climbed the ladder of success wrong by wrong.”

Fireman
If you are a fireman, your archetypal mix is Athlete, Caregiver, and Hero. Many little boys (and now more girls, too) dream of being firemen when they grow up. But having the dream and “putting out fires” all day at the office are not the same thing as truly living this archetype. As Gregory Widen says in the classic firefighter movie Backdraft, “night and day, they are always firemen.” Your proudest moment is being called on to save lives.

Freedom Fighter
In preschool your cause may have been more milk and mat time. The nature of your power comes from the Advocate and Rebel families. The social or political freedom of people is your passion. Every ounce of your emotional, spiritual, and physical stamina goes toward defending others; in the words of the great South African freedom fighter Nelson Mandela, “It always seems impossible until it is done.” And you love that.

Friend
Thelma and Louise, Tigger and Pooh, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. There are infinite combos, but for the authentic Friend archetype, being loyal and nurturing with our relationships is second nature and top priority. Always a Caregiver and often an Advocate, if you are living this archetype the friends in your life are your gifts of grace, even if they don’t always come perfectly packaged.

When all is said and done, the only perfect packaging for us may be the archetypes we are born with. The ones that “connect us all,” as bestselling author Carolyn Myss tells us in her latest book, Archetypes. They invite us to “step into our skin.” They reveal amazing answers to the age-old question: “For what reason was I born?” Then they open the floodgates to so much fun.

And what could be more fabulous?

With grace and gratitude,
Cristina
