We’ve all been hard-wired to walk and talk archetypes since our birth and the beginning of time. And it was inevitable, as best-selling author Carolyn Myss tells us in her book Archetypes: Who are You? that one day society would “make a quantum leap and our rational intellect would find a way to engage with our intuitive intelligence.” We’d start speaking of our true power. Et voila! Welcome to technology, the “inner-net,” and discovering more of who you are. Really!

Here are 4 “R”s to see if they resonate and help you rejoice in your relationships.

Romantic
While you may not throw reality out with the bath-for-two water, to you love is real. And real is love. And you love it and express it in fancy and sentiment to your significant squeeze. Whether hopeful or hopeless romantic, you make love look like an art form. Which fits, because your archetypal families are the Caring and Creative families and you are fluent in the art of love. You can readily recite the line “No measure of time with you will be long enough. But let’s start with forever” from the Twilight Sagas. But don’t be surprised when you let an avalanche of your own adjectives loose and come up with a classic that’s even better!

Researcher
Albert Einstein said, “If we knew what we were doing it wouldn’t be research.” And you wouldn’t be who you are if you weren’t gaga for Google. No surprise your archetypal family is the Intellectual. You delight in data. Whether your research is qualitative, quantitative, medical, focus groups, or dating sites, you’re in your groove seeking knowledge and the right answer. And you are likely behind the scenes quietly changing your world.

Rebel
If the Rebel is you, you are not “without a cause” and all about breaking through the barriers that constrict the human spirit. This is one of the primary and more complex archetypes, a family unto itself. And who among us hasn’t rebelled at some point against family? Thing is, the archetypal Rebel keeps going long after leaving home. You are programmed by nature to not play by everyone’s rules. You’re not shy about speaking out, whether for or against country, community, or sexuality, to name a few. Here are a few words by one of the greatest Rebels of all time that I must never forget: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Mahatma Gandhi. Carry on!

Rocker
And then came rock ’n’ roll! You may be a punk rocker, boomer rocker, or one of the seniors who, along with Betty White, are “Off their Rockers” and having the time of their lives. Any way you slice it, your heart pumps to the rhythm of life and rock runs through your veins. Your families are the Creative/Rebel. The perpetual rocker Madonna (from the Creative Wonder Child family and the rocking Rebel land), said, “I wouldn’t have turned out the way I was if I didn’t have all those old-fashioned values to rebel against.” Whether you are performing onstage or quietly performing an awesome kindness for another, I can’t help but tell you “you rock.” You do!

Here’s to a lifetime of rocking on!

With grace and gratitude,
Cristina
