Thinking back on the oh-so-many years ago when I learned my ABCs, I first used my tiny finger to trace each letter on the page as I marveled at forming baby words. Then one day, a miracle! I no longer needed my finger as a pointer. Those ABCs gave me the key to freedom and possibility.

If you are a Caregiver, your biggest challenge may be to resist the temptation to care for everyone and everything, neglecting yourself. And if Caregiver is your primary archetype, resisting this temptation is like resisting the impulse to blink. If your mantra is “What can I do to help that person?” or “How can I be of service?” you are a real Caregiver. But keep in mind that, as with all of us, the true answer to your questions is to be found at home. Within yourself.

While there are 26 letters in the alphabet, there are hundreds upon hundreds of archetypes with new ones likely being born this very day. So this week, here’s a small dish of my “D” favorites. G is for growing, and growing is what knowing our individual cluster of archetypes helps us do. We grow boldly into living “what is true about us and what has always been true,” as Caroline Myss writes in her new book, Archetypes. We wake up to our purpose here and give up taking that for granted. As a result, we let the games begin — the ones that bring greater joy, peace, connection, and fun.

One of the infinite reasons I love taking adventures with archetypes is they are a glorious internal GPS. They give clear directions to get from our unconscious to our conscious mind. And it is likely far greater than you know.
